The most crowded galaxy has been discovered. It is near to the Earth and astronomers have named it as M60-UCD1. It is home to extraordinary number of stars and astronomers have found it using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and Chandra X-ray Observatory.

The M60-UCD1 crowded galaxy is located near a massive elliptical galaxy NGC 4649 and is 54 million light years from our planet.

The Chandra image looks like a hot gas and double stars that contain neutron stars as well as black holes. The Hubble image shows stars in M60 and M60-UCD1 neighboring galaxies too.

Jay Strader of Michigan State University in Lansing said, "Traveling from one star to another would be a lot easier in M60-UCD1 than it is in our galaxy, but it would still take hundreds of years using present technology."

Jay is the lead author of the study that was published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters recently.

Jay and his team wanted to find out whether the newly discovered galaxy was born as a jam-packed star cluster or later it became such crowded as more stars started ripping away from it.

Co-author Duncan Forbes of Swinburne University in Australia said, "We think nearly all of the stars have been pulled away from the exterior of what once was a much bigger galaxy… This leaves behind just the very dense nucleus of the former galaxy, and an overly massive black hole."

Astronomers say the most remarkable aspect of the newly found galaxy is that half of its mass is found within 80 light years radius, but the density within it is 15,000 times greater. Compared to the Milky Way the stars in M60-UCD1 are 25 times closer to each other.
